...solo-flyin' through the holidays....(mom and dad, this one's for you)
Dec 24th at 5pm brought me around to solo-flying in all it's glory (meaning any responsibilities I had towards work or little children, were completed...until at least the 26th). I stopped at the grocery store on my way back home to pick up the afro-inspired Christmas feast:
crispex frozen pizza milk (whole milk-holiday celebrating indeed) frozen pretzels microwave brownies and cookies(single-servings--including the bowl (!)
sensing a theme?
extra special part was not only did I select all the foods that I wanted to eat, without regard to nutrition level or balanced-ness for the meal, there is no requirements for dishes of any kind; and therefore-cleanup=toss in garbage. (my eyes are tearing up just thinking about the beauty of simplicity and yummy food)
I also picked up a year-in-review magazine to read while I had my christmas eve feast and watched a movie.
the night-was magical. calm. and i went to sleep earlier than I had planned on.
and slept in the next morning until 11:000AM; awoke to a peaceful, calm and quiet house. This was a christmas morning like no other I had experienced. And if my kids read this next part later, I will stand by it---I LOVED the sleeping in and slow waking up....peacefulness in the day before me, and the warm cookie I had for breakfast in bed while I watched the second half of Stranger than Fiction...and the can of whipped cream that I kept with me as I ate....and used...alot.
the rest of the day unfolded unexectedly(in that I KNEW i was going to do SOMETHING in SLC, I just didn't know exactly what it was....until I knew; and then went and did it) a very well-rounded and fantastic celebration of the day.
and because I'm working today, this "update" will have to do for now.
the rest of the update will include:
weather proofing my Kirigami snowflakes, giving my fresh Christmas tree a "trim" and preparing these on the fly for distribution to a salt lake city landmark.
and finding at the end of distribution and placement activities, two "extra's" that fit perfectly as a blue and pink pair to celebrate the memory of another one of the greatest love stories ever told.
and then heading over to visit extended family to celebrate the end of a very relaxing Christmas day.
Elisa presented her report on "Christmas traditions in Wales" in her class today.
[mental solo-flyer scorecard for December: one project down, two christmas programs to go...then Christmas can come on board]
I love to be supportive and watch the girls operate in their own "daily environment" of school and interacting with their friends, embarrassing them at each and every opportunity and so forth, but it's the extra programs/projects in the December mix that tend to kick it up a notch and call my creative time-management skills out for a showdown.
I usually win, but it's still a pretty close match to the end of the month ...each and every year school-attendin' year. Which makes December of 2008...[to borrow a phrase from JJ]-- "just the way I like it!!!"
Solo-flyer momma says: "bring it!"...I'll do it for the kids...hhhmmm what's that sayin' that is oh so applicable to this situation?
"When in trouble, when in doubt. Run in circles. Scream and shout."
(wait.... THAT piece of advice seems to be the starting point to my girls awesomely unique personalities)
I shall therefore, just focus my energies on "carry-ing on" and moving in a forward direction.
*** That said, I'm also not one to argue with the following:
there's my baby girl, fast asleep on my bed with her sleep mask. (note the excellent use of the entire Queen size bed with her diagonal full body placement)
Phrase on her hot pink sleep mask? "Peace at Last"
EVERYONE needs...a little Mahna Mahna....even Miranda...and ESPECIALLY in these trying holiday filled month that we find ourselves in...no one likes extra work...let us all laugh together....(it's ok, J, you're not giving to me this year. you can afford to be annoyed...at least until next year ;-)
(additional "private" note to the Momma of M....her video is below...but I couldn't "help" myself.....girls are gone till tomorrow afternoon. walking away from my computer after this last successful post; but...come ON...they are sooooo cute. and the red head master of creative forces...totally ROCKS!!!! I'd say that this reminds me of trying to get the girls ready for school...and how they out-vote me...but...that is for yet another post. Looking forward to it--is all that's ringing in my ears my friend...)

To: Miranda
From: Elisa
(we miss you and love you and a little while back... afton made a video of elisa testing out her brand new blackberry Bold and forgot about it until JUST NOW...listen carefully for your name ...and remember--we love you and miss you; but are so happy we have YOU as a cousin)
(side note for the one or two viewers that need a relationship graph for Miranda...older sis of af. had a beautiful baby girl....just in time to give MY girls a brilliant playmate cousin and actually--the existence of this particular cousin kept Amy from a melt down when I told her we were moving from Utah to CA in 200...whenever THAT was...details are for another post. or not...
"amy...don't cry...don't you remember??? you may be leaving the only hometown you have ever known...but Miranda (!!!) lives there...a real live baby for you to play with and love...."; hey man...i may be a heartless momma when it comes to discipline, but telling a four year old they have to move involves the promise of a "live"baby doll on the other end to play with...I'm not THAT cold...and miranda was about 1, i believe.
Elisa didn't really have an opinion at 2 or 3ish...but...boy those two were the original inspiration for Friday night "Girls Night"parties...so...hats off to all the little ones....they inspire stuff in grown-ups without even TRYING!!!)
(note...that ALL my comments are in ( )...but...also further note...that "I" get to write however and WHATever style i wanna write in....I'm the AF...of "af and the girls" and I'll grab whatever control I can find in my very own blogger world that there is to grab...cause...I tell myself..."what could be healthier than that?!?" )
[comment to be read ONLY after viewing miss elisa....yeah, like YOU had any idea WHAT the capital of Connecticut was and only since I googled the actual answer before posting this video, do I know that miss amy will get a firm talking with after she gets home tomorrow
....and..for the parents of shy-ish kids...they'll understand the next comment: I LOVE that I was able to capture even a glimpse of Elisa's personality on a video. I know she was probably stalling for bed...but as a mom of a kid that doesn't talk too much around "strangers" or anyone but immediate family, but has an AWESOME personality around ME; I am both thrilled and in love all over again with my baby girl. oh yeah --she'll be embarrassed by her cuteness here on the baby-blog, but ...reference early comment about how I get to post whatever I want. and...i love my girls.nuff said.]
